Position Summary:

Our client in the Atlanta, GA area is looking for a Lead Chemist to aid in new product development for their industrial chemical products manufacturing facility.  

 

Essential Functions:

  • Formulate and facilitate development of new products
  • Formulation of industrial chemical products, primarily water and surfactant-based detergents
  • Sample analysis and reverse engineering of products per customer requirements
  • Self-performance of lab activities, including titrations, pH, refractive index, viscosity, specific gravity, cloud point, foam height, and specific ingredient analyses
  • Optimize current product line by facilitating development for modifications in current formula
  • Response, analysis, and solutions for product recall/quality events
  • Maintenance of formulations and data integrity in formulator database
  • Management of regulatory and SDS production and compliance measures
  • Management of production batch records for recall and QC purposes
  • Maintain relationships with clients for new development initiatives and field application
  • Create and maintain all of the necessary documentation in order to develop and commercialize the products
  • Conduct testing for all products currently developed as well as potential new products
  • Must be hands-on in the laboratory and have experience with the operation of basic lab equipment
  • Develop and maintain SOPs
  • Work with production team to help transition the formulations to full scale manufacturing, including support during plant trials or start of production
  • Work with management team to identify solutions for manufacturing issues, qualify alternate source raw materials for purchasing, and identify ways to reduce production costs
  • Proactively research new materials and technical concepts
  • Must be willing and able to perform lab work and analysis without subordinate resources

Qualifications:

  • Chemistry degree (will accept all levels BS, MS, PhD)
  • Must have minimum of 10 years’ experience in industrial detergent analysis/formulation
  • Must have formulation and reverse engineering experience
  • Must have experience in surfactant, detergent, degreasing chemistry
